Making Spirits Bright – Holiday Cocktails

Casa's Feliz NavinogIt’s that time of year when you are most likely to be hosting a party with friends or family. Make that gathering a little more festive and special by extending the Holiday spirit to the drinks and refreshments you offer your guests.  Here are few new ones to try:

 THE GRINCH

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz.  Midori
  • 1/2 oz. lemon juice 
  • 1 tsp.  sugar syrup

Mixing instructions:

Mix all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Option: Garnish this green drink with a red cherry.

CHRISTMAS COSMOPOLITAN

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 oz. Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz. cranberry juice 
  • 1 tsp. lime juice 
  • 1 oz.  Vodka 

Mixing instructions:

Place all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Option: To garnish, float a few frozen cranberries after pouring.

HOLLY BERRY

Ingredients:

  • 1/8 oz. lemon juice 
  • 1 1/2 oz.  Gin 
  • fresh raspberries (as garnish)
  • Raspberry juice

Mixing instructions:

Fill a shaker with ice. Add 1 ½ oz. Plymouth Gin, and the juice of 1/8 fresh lemon. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with raspberry juice and garnish with fresh raspberries. Option: Try a raspberry liqueur in place of the raspberry juice.

CHRISTMAS COSMOPOLITAN

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 oz.  Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz. cranberry juice 
  • 1 tsp. lime juice 
  • 1 oz.  Vodka

Mixing instructions:

Place all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Option: To garnish, float a few frozen cranberries after pouring

APPLE CIDER SPARKLE (PUNCH)

Ingredients:

  6 cups apple cider

  2 cups cranberry/raspberry cocktail (or orange juice, orange-mango or your favorite juice blend)

  1 bottle (750-ml) champagne, or sparkling wine

  1/2 cup lemon juice

Mixing instructions:
In punch bowl, large pitcher, or even several pitchers combine apple cider, orange juice and lemon juice.

Just before your guests arrive, slowly add champagne or sparkling wine. Serve immediately or keep chilled with large ice blocks.

Makes about 15 servings of 6 oz. each. For a non-alcoholic punch, use sparkling grape juice in place of the wine or champagne.
